In a city like Trapani, the welcome has the flavour of history. The Hotel San Michele is born between the walls of an ancient building that, for centuries, has preserved the history of this territory. The spaces of his oratory, from 1700 until the middle of last century, hosted the groups of statues of "Misteri", that is a traditional procession who takes place during the Good Friday. This is one of the most important religious events in Europe, with a 400 years of history and a 24 hours event.

The Hotel’s Interiors

We are among the remains of an ancient church, originally built in 1436 . The property had its evolution during Renaissance when it was expanded to become the site which, in the rest of the year, hosted the "vare" that, in the Trapani Easter, compose the Procession.

The church, in Renaissance style, presented for the first time in Trapani a dome in accordance with the Arab-Byzantine art. The entrance was preceded by an yard in Via San Michele; on the left of the entrance there was a chapel with a statue of the Archangel in white marble. The dimensions of the church were rather small, 6 meters wide and 12 long.

Processione dei Misteri di Trapani

Unfortunately, time and disinterest have destroyed much of the architectural and historic beauty of the old building. But in the reconstruction we tried in every way to preserve the proof of that period.

And then there are the ancient stairs of Trapani, real masterpieces of "master masons", the pride of the Trapani’s workers.

The awesomeness
of old neighborhoods

Hotel San Michele is not only a ancient building, but it is also a place in the heart of Old town, with life, history and tradition.
